The Red Dragon Inn.

Welcome to the self proclaimed oldest building in the main city, and the realm itself. The building's true age is unknown, but it seems to have traces of all the ages of Rhydin incorporated into it's structure. However some of these traces are harder to find then others are. It is the birth place of legends, heroes and and all kinds of other timeless stories if you can believe what the staff and historians like to tell you about the place.

The building is somewhat of a mascot for the city and everybody knows about it, and it remains to be one of the most popular places in town to have a good meal, and a drink to enjoy the evening. It is not uncommon to see people of all races here, interacting usually rather well at the bar, or a table. The place is open at all times, and refuses service to nobody. The prices are fair, but sometimes the occasional free ale nights do happen.

The inn gets it's name due to the skull of the red dragon that is mounted over the fire place. It is said that a nameless hero plunged his magical sword deep into the chest of a terrible red dragon that intended to destroy the whole realm in a fit of rage. Apparently this story has several versions depending on who tells it. Truth is nobody really knows how the skull got there, and who would be willing to kill such a beast. Anybody who knows anything about dragons can tell you the beast had many years of life left in it before it met it's end. Some say the skull holds the soul of the beast and it waits for a chance to escape.

The inn is magically protected and it repairs itself from any damage. It is the building version of immortality.

The inn is a three story building. The top floor has fourteen rooms for people to sleep in, and people do use these rooms. Like any good inn worth it's salt, each of the rooms has a history behind it, most of these stories are best left uncovered if you plan to get any sleep in them. Ghosts are very real in Rhydin and sometimes they come to the inn. All of the rooms exactly the same, all of them save the sixth one on the end of the hall. This room is considered the "Heroes" room and according to legend most of the great heroes of Rhydin have spent time in here throughout its decorated history. According to legends in the heroic room lies a book with the signatures of everyone who's ever stayed in here and has used the room before..or after completing some kind of quest or adventure. If such a tome exists, it would validate the existance of these people at least, maybe more. Yet the book has yet to be found.

The walls are all monotone brown, its not much to look at, but practical useage was intended for this place, not style. The upstairs is quiet compared to all the noise that comes from the downstairs area. Just beneath the living quarters lies the staff quarters. Yes, people who work here are allowed to stay and live here for free, provided they still work here. Not much is known about this area, but the third floor and the second floor in no way are connected by stairs, or anything else. If one wishes to reach the third floor, they must go down to the first and climb up the other flight of stairs. Attempts have been tried in the past to make this easier, but the magical nature of the building defeats any changes. Nobody knows who the original builder of the place is..or was. The staff quarters are five rooms. It has no more then five attendants at any time, these rooms are spacious and magical providers for all the basic needs.

The main floor is where all the action happens though. Despite the place not looking too big from the outside, it's pretty big on the inside. It can sit up to five hundred people, it has a good set up by the fire place, a couch, and two chairs on both ends of it. Booths along the walls. The doorway into the place is directly across from the bar. The door itself is made from a strange kind of wood that feels more like solid steel then anything wooden. No such tree has been found like it so one can only assume the door is magical of some kind. But since the place accepts everyone and it never closes, nobody knows why it's so different from the rest of the building.

The red dragon is simple and effective in it's purpose. Nobody will ever award it for it's looks, but when it comes to general services, it is unmatched.

Unknown to most of the people that come here though. The Red Dragon has a basement, and this is a wild and chaotic place. it is forbidden for anybody to come down here because alot of the time people don't come back. The RDI was built upon one of the most powerful sources of magic on all of Rhydin. It is uncontrollable usually and is part of a much bigger system of magical "rivers" in the land. To tap into this usually means instant death or worse. But sometimes powerful magic users can direct this magical flow of power to their own ends.

It is a well kept secret and most of the time not even the staff knows. The basement door is covered by a superior crafted illusion, and most people can't even find it. There are stories of "Dead heroes" coming into the inn, and coming out alive. It's been called a miracle, and mystery of the past. Some people suspect there is something more to the Inn then just being an old building, and its true, once people come in here its as if they had been here before. Nobody feels uncomfortable here, it's like a second home they can always depend on being there nomatter how bad things can get in the outside world.

The staff:

Travis: He is the newest member of the staff, yet he has worked here for nearly Ten years, now. He is forgettable of a person, most people cant even remember what he looks like ten minutes after leaving the inn. He doesn't care though. He likes his job, but sometimes it can get messy. His main job here is to break up the fights and he is more then capable of doing it.

Gina: She has been here forever it seems like. Everybody knows her and she seems to know everybody else. She is the bartender and is a expert at her job. She nearly never messes up an order. She is older, but still attractive and more like a mother to some of the poor saps that come in to the place late at night seeking a place to escape the dark. She's a redheaded beauty, but upon closer inspection, you can see time is slowly taking it's toll.

Nathan: Few people know he works here, he is the guy behind the scenes most of the time. He is the main cook and cleaner of the place. He's been doing the job for awhile so that even when things get busy, he can keep it under control. He isnt exactly a people person, you might see him once or twice a night but usually he keeps to himself.

Laura: She is the main waitress of the place. Taking orders, running them to the customers. She rarely talks to people for very long as she is usually busy throughout the night. A hard worker and perfectionist at heart she is always trying to out do only herself.

Crystal: She is the night time operator. No food is served in the middle of the night, but small orders are still made. She basically keeps things going all night long, and she disappears as soon as the sun shows up. The only time there are no staff on duty is from the crack of dawn until about ten in the morning.

The staff members gain the added advantage of being immortal while they are working for the Inn, this is a secret only the workers know, and they never reveal it to anyone under any condition.

The Red Dragon Inn is open for business. Come on In.

The Academy of Ravenheart.

Magic is a powerful force in Rhydin. However, there are few who can actually use it naturally and it remains a mysterious energy to many people. It can be learned however. There are many places in Rhydin that teach high magic, but first you must enter into the mystical building of Ravenheart. It is a place where people are introduced to the mystery, offically. Many people come here, but few ever make it through the lessons. It is not for everyone.

This place is not hidden, but it can only be entered by those who wish to actually enter it with the intention to learn, anybody can enter so long as the desire to learn how to be a magic user truly exists in them. Sometimes people from the Rhydin Academy enter here for further training of the magical arts, sometimes people come here with no training at all.

The building itself is ancient, and is the source of many legends and heroes. Many stories start out with this place, and only get better from there. This inspires many to come here. The place is not a castle so much as it seems to be a mansion. It appears to be very plain beyond the iron gates that stand before the entryway, the whole complex is surrounded with a seven foot stone wall, woe be to any who try to damage this wall, the stones can defend themselves from any outside attack with flames.

Nobody truly knows who built the place, it's just always been there. Like most of the famous buildings in and around the main city, it's history far exceeds it's appearances. It is a brown walled building, but it's faded to a dull yellow almost. The gates never open after sunset, for anyone. Students are not allowed off the grounds after dark, but they have no curfew on the grounds, responsibility is theirs to to keep.

The motto of the school is "No ends" this is confusing, but signifies the idea that the learning of the magics never truly ends, as there is always more to learn, much more than one can learn in one lifetime, this motto is emblazoned above the front door of the school.

Inside the Academy is a thought form. All you need to do is think where you need to go, or be, and it will send you there instantly, there are no real doors other than the front ones to enter and leave the building. The enchantment in this place is often studied by the greatest minds in the realm, it's a mystery to even them.

The sections of learning are separated into six parts.

White: Obviously, this is the healing and positive energies of the world. Other places teach the art of healing, with potions and some low level magic spells, this is focused solely on the energy aspect of the magic. This section is difficult for most, as most people see magic as a destructive force, this is exactly the opposite, with only one offensive spell taught in this section.

Green: This is the power of nature and of the elements. This is a very powerful section that nearly everybody thinks they can master, but few ever get anywhere. Even at the lowest levels of power these spells can cause massive damage, small mistakes are costly. Most people are often destroyed by their attempts to control the forces of nature.

Blue: This is the power of defensive magic. This is the least popular section of the school. Everybody wants to learn how to be powerful and forceful, but this is also one of the easiest sections to master as well, the low level defensive magic is effective against most of the other sections.

Purple: The Cosmic Way. This is the most mysterious and strangest of all the magics. It's said this is the magic of creation itself. This is the most dangerous section, failure to master it at the first level of power, means death. Nobody returns from these lessons, and it takes a special person to master it's power. Those who do, are said to become legends.

Orange: Warrior Magic, this is a mixture of offensive and defensive magic made for the battlefield. It is easy to understand and simple to perform in the heat of battle. Most warriors attempt to master this for the boosts in physical power it gives, even the entry level mastery can make the difference between losing, and winning.

Black: This magic was made for dark purposes, few people actively seek this course out because it has a negative view. Although its users do not have to be evil, they are more power hungry than most and are willing to do more to get what they want. This is a very powerful section to start out with and there is much to learn. This section of magic is easily the most devastating one there is.

There are no teachers. Instead, upon entering the front doors there are six orbs each one representing a different color, touch one of these orbs and be transported to this section. There is a room, with a book in the middle. Each spell must be mastered before you can turn the page to the next one, and so on. Upon mastering a section, one can either decide to try another, or leave the school.

It is free to enter the school, but upon leaving, you must swear to live by the secret oath of the magic you have mastered. Only three people have reportedly mastered all six sections of power. Others who have tried, have died in the attempt.

The Academy of Ravensheart is a special place in Rhydin, many people come here to learn magic, and many others just wonder what it would be like to learn. It is a legendary place that is known everywhere. Graduates that leave the school often go seek the towers of High magic, one for each section of power in the school. These towers are only revealed to those who master a section. If this location is given to anybody else who has not earned the right to know where it is, the student will be punished in ways only magic can provide.

Ravensheart is open for all comers, its waiting for you. Will you accept its challenge?
