1999

Beginning in the latter half of this year, the Earth was once again coveted by a hostile alien race, this time known as the Kilaaks. The Kilaaks weren't human, but rather bio engineered life forms created by a now extinct Muan/Lemurian colony to survive in extremely hostile environmental conditions, and upon the demise of the latter colony, this new sentient life form, who referred to themselves as the 'Kilaaks,' had since appropriated their creators' advanced technology and formed a colony world of their own on the "hot" side of Mercury.

In their normal form, the Kilaaks were an asexual silicon life form relatively few in number compared to the billions of carbon based lifeforms who inhabit the Earth. They resembled roughly worm-shaped silicate rock formations that weighed no more than two pounds, and only about a foot in length, and possessing no limbs or appendages of any kind (they were forced to move very slowly upon the ground via caterpillar-like undulations). They depended upon extremely hot temperatures in order to exist in their natural forms; when exposed to temperatures even as high as tropical level on Earth, they would quickly fall into a state of hibernation, where they would lay inanimate for months. They evidently reproduced by a form of parthenogenesis.

Contrary to what was explicated in certain publications detailing their invasion, the Kilaaks didn't hail from a tiny but unknown planet within Earth's solar system that was closer to the sun than Mercury, but was likely Mercury itself, as they were bio engineered to do by the lost Muan colony that first created them. The side of Mercury that faces the sun would probably be sufficiently hot to sustain the race, but the volcanically dead world lacked many of the mineral resources they evidently needed for sustenance, and which could be found on very mineral rich planets like Earth, despite the fact that only several hundred miles beneath the planet's surface, approaching its molten core, could the Kilaaks' extremely heat dependent silicon physiology be able to thrive for long in their true forms. This is to say nothing of the conflicts that the burgeoning Kilaak civilization was likely having with other advanced intrasolar Muan colonies, such as the Xians and the Natals.

What type of culture or social hierarchy and/or culture the Kilaaks may possess was never in evidence during their brief direct interactions with humans. They apparently do not consort with carbon based life forms, and consider the former to be inherently inferior to them, and commonly regard such life forms as being mere living tools for the purpose of the Kilaak race to exploit in accordance with their own needs. Despite the fact that sentience is very unusual in silicon life forms, whose metabolic rates are considerably slower than carbon based organisms, the Kilaaks are not only fully self-aware and sentient, but also exceedingly intelligent. By unknown means, they have acquired advanced technology, close to 150 years more advanced than Earth by the beginning of the 21st century, and this includes spacecraft with sub-light travel capacity.

Most intriguing of all is the fact that the Kilaaks have acquired the ability to take on the assumed form of humanoid organisms. These disguises appear to be fully tangible, and grant the Kilaaks the ability to manage tools and operate their technology, as a sentient race must be bipedal and in possession of hands with several digits capable of gripping and manipulating objects in order to develop what we know as advanced technology. When the Kilaaks were seen in their bogus humanoid forms, they always appeared as females, and were always attired in a simple, silvery full body garment that covered the entire body except for their faces. They were also able to communicate verbally via universal translator from these simulated humanoid forms. These bogus humanoid frames enabled them to withstand considerably lower temperatures than usual for extended periods of time, though full exposure to anything less than a temperature level commensurate to that of Earth tropical would cause them to quickly lose their simulated humanoid shell, and revert back to their true, nearly physically helpless forms. It's unknown how the Kilaaks communicated amongst each other when in their actual non-humanoid forms, which appeared to lack any kind of sound producing organ, though it's possible they did so through a form of pheromone, or by psychic means.

How the Kilaaks managed to acquire all of this advanced technology, including their ability to take on a humanoid guise, remains a mystery. However, their spacecraft design and humanoid form simulating ability, looks as if it was based on that of the Xians and the Nebulans, respectively, both of whom they may have had contact with at some point. Hence, they may have somehow found a means of acquiring their technology, and then modifying it to their own purposes. They did manage to duplicate the Xians' development of mind control technology, though they redesigned it so that the carrier wave signals would affect an organism not by direct exposure, but would instead be beamed into their neural pathways connected to their will by means of small, metallic devices that were surgically implanted into the cerebrum. Unlike the Xians, they were thus able to control humanoid beings as well as dai kaiju.

Upon duplicating the carrier wave frequency technology utilized by the likes of the Xians and the Nebulans, they managed to locate and take control of the nefarious King Ghidorah, who they used as their last line of defense.

Learning of planet Earth and its abundant mineral resources, including its molten core, the Kilaaks decided to make it a target for conquest. They believed that the Xians and Nebulans failed in their attempts to conquer Earth since they were both "inferior" organic races, and the Kilaaks' characteristic hubris didn't accept the possibility that they would not succeed in a conflict with a carbon based race of beings. To do so as secretly as possible, and not to attract the attention of A.C.I.D., they secretly kidnapped and surgically implanted several small control devices into key human political and industrial leaders across the world in order to subvert Earth's globalized economic order from within various warnings of an alien control presence that appeared on various Internet web sites at the time were dismissed as more conspiracy theory nonsense.

Moreover, the Kilaaks designed much larger versions of these devices to be implanted into the craniums of the various monsters who populated Monster Island. In order to take control of both the human U.N. personnel who inhabited the scientific installation beneath the fabled atoll, as well as the dai kaiju residents, the Kilaaks launched a surprise attack on the island via a very potent form of knock-out gas. Once sedated, the human crew and monsters were quickly given implants, and this placed the entire Monster Island scientific base, as well as all of Earth's monsters, under Kilaak control. Their broadcast devices were much too well hidden across disparate locations on the planet for governmental agencies such as Interpol, or any nation's armed forces, to locate and neutralize in time.

The sole exception to the above was the crew of the Moonlight SY-3 spacecraft, who were then away on a mission to the moonbase.

Shortly after this, with the monsters securely under their control, the Kilaaks made their invasion plans public, and precipitated this by directing all of Earth's monsters to attack many of the major cities of the world, and to crush whatever military forces amassed themselves against them. Specifically, Godzilla and Manda attacked New York City, Rodan assaulted Moscow, the then current larval incarnation of Mothra destroyed a passenger train in Peking, and either Baragon or Gorosaurus appeared from underground in Paris to demolish the Eiffel Tower press accounts seem to have totally confused the issue as to which of these two monsters was responsible, and many of the panic-stricken witnesses gave conflicting accounts; the particular kaiju who destroyed the Eiffel Tower had immediately retreated back underground, so it was never definitively identified by the French military response. Surprisingly, Tokyo was thus far spared a kaiju assault.

An emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council elected not to give in to the Kilaak demand for surrender, and decided to have the well-armed and well-trained crew of the Moonlight SY-3 to retake the scientific installation beneath Monster Island. After a heavy firefight, the crew of military astronauts were successful, and the commander of the base was captured. Though he soon committed suicide to avoid questioning, his subsequent autopsy revealed the means by which he was controlled. It was soon discovered by the U.N. that the Kilaaks had established their primary headquarters inside Mt. Fuji possibly using the remains of the old Mysterian base established there 42 years previous, and upon this discovery, Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and Manda were finally directed to attack and devastate Tokyo.

In retaliation, a military unit was sent to attack the base, only to be countered by the Kilaak-controlled duo of Godzilla and Anguirus. Nevertheless, it was discovered that the master control devices used to dominate the monsters and humans was located within the moonbase itself, which had been infiltrated and taken over by the Kilaaks. After this was determined, the Moonlight SY-3 launched an attack on the moonbase, and it was here that the Kilaaks were first directly encountered by humanity, and their unique vulnerability to cold temperatures was discovered.

Once the master control devices were captured by the Moonlight SY-3 crew, the aliens' human puppets were freed from their domination, and Earth's monster army was freed from alien control, the monsters, led by Godzilla, went to attack the Kilaak base hidden within Mt. Fuji, and to crush the invasion attempt once and for all. However, upon the arrival of the ten kaiju (Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Manda, Spiega, Minya, Baragon, and Varan) the Kilaaks decided to finally unleash their formidable ace in the hole, King Ghidorah [who was controlled by different means than the technological implants, thus making the space dragon still under the control of the invaders. After the vastly powerful tri-headed beast was ordered to attack and destroy all of Earth's monsters, a monumental battle ensued. Meanwhile, the Kilaaks also released another secret weapon, a flying "saucer" designed to emit an enveloping shield of fiery energy, and ordered this craft to attack the U.N. command base.

Rodan tried to counter the craft, but the kaiju of the sky was injured after contact with the craft's flame-like energy shield, and the airborne monster quickly fled to nurse his wounds. As a result, the U.N. command apparatus was soon destroyed, taking with it many important members of the U.N. and scientists.

In the meantime, despite his incredible level of power, King Ghidorah was no match for the combined might of all of Earth's monsters, and after a tremendous battle, the alien kaiju was thrashed into oblivion, finally ending his galaxy-spanning reign of terror for the time being.

Once released from alien control, Godzilla appeared to understand precisely what had happened, and he used his atomic breath to destroy the Kilaak base under his own volition. In the meantime, the Moonlight SY-3 attacked the fiery "monster" sent by the Kilaaks, and upon discovering that it was actually a specially designed spacecraft, they managed to destroy it, thus completely ending every aspect of the Kilaak invasion attempt.

All of the monsters were directed by Godzilla to return peaceably to Monster Island, and to their continued harmonious existence with the human race, leaving humanity to rebuild their world once more from the battle.
